Someone to love with my life in their hands (For Derek)

Derek had told her they were going after Deucalion. He was taking his pack, but the Alpha would have his, too, Hayley was certain. No one got to that position by going solo, no matter what he'd promised Scott. Her hand itched, going to her cell phone more than a few times, ready to call Elijah, but...what the hell could he do from Louisiana fast enough? By the time he got here, it would be over.  Besides, she'd promised Derek she'd let him handle it himself first before calling in her backup.

That didn't mean she had to like it.

She didn't much like not being there, either, for all that she was useless in a fight right now. Even without the baby, she couldn't shift at will like they could. She was fast and she was strong, but if she couldn't bring her claws out what good would that be? 

So, she...paced. And felt useless. And paced. The moon rose and set. The sun came up. Derek's cell phone rang, but he didn't answer it. No one called her...she guessed no one knew to except maybe Cora, and she didn't know the girl's number to get in touch with her, either, when the teenager didn't call her. Maybe she didn't know how to find her. Maybe she didn't figure Hayley rated knowing anything. Maybe she was dead.

Fuck, but she hated being let sitting at home like some princess in a tower. She wasn't a princess. She wasn't used to being protected. It was a sweet feeling on one level, but she was so not made for waiting.

It was all she was able to do, though, and by the time the sun was high in the sky again, she had given up any pretense of being okay with it. Grabbing her purse, she fished out her keys. She was going to the loft. If no one was there, she was going to the hospital. If there was one thing she was good at, it was getting information out of people.

Cursing fluidly to herself, she moved to the door, yanking it open.

"No, just...time." There was nothing that could really help him now. Except for maybe one thing.

"And you." He brought a hand up to her cheek, brushing his thumb lightly over her cheek bone and then into her hair gently.

She leaned into his touch with a little sigh, giving him a smile. "I'm right here..."

Glancing down at himself, he studied the mess of dried blood and dust that was all over him. "How big is your bath tub?"

"It's pretty impressive, actually," she said with a wry smile. Elijah had nothing if not exquisite taste. "You want to check it out?"

"Only if you join me this time." Considering she had only sat beside the tub the last time.

She smiled slowly. "Well, I did go and get your blood all over me again...we've really got to find a new reason for running baths..."

"I promise, the next time we take a bath it will be just for fun." He shifted to the edge of the couch, standing slowly as he looked down at her. "Lead the way."

Hayley stood smoothly, worried look at him standing and reached for his hand, ready to help if he needed it, but not assuming, either. "I'm going to hold you to that..."

It was amazing how much just a bit of time could change things as he seemed a bit steadier on his feet, the pain having backed off enough that he could focus when he looked at her again. Even his eyes seemed clearer, sharper, while he followed her up the stairs slowly. "That's only if your tub can actually fit us both though."

"It can fit us both," she assured him, then smirked. "It's even got jets."

She led him slowly up and back to her room, then to the master bath which was kind of ridiculously impressive with a large shower and a separate tub easily big enough for two.

"Jets, huh?" He grinned a little, following her through her bedroom into the master bath where he stopped at the sight of the shower and tub both. Needless to say, it was impressive.

"That definitely looks like it'll work." He nodded at her bath before glancing over at her. "I'll need your help getting undressed though."

There was both a slightly embarrassed and yet exasperatedly fond look in her eye as she looked at the tub. "Yeah...jets..." She waved a hand at the bath, and then smiled at his request.

"Of course..." She moved and turned on the water first, so it could be filling, then moved back to him, reaching for his jeans and undoing them deftly since she'd already taken care of the shirt.

Derek watched her with a wry smile as she moved back to him to start undoing his pants so she could get them off. Which just seemed wrong somehow.

Watching her a moment longer, he admired once more just how beautiful she was before leaning down to kiss her softly.

She didn't think it was wrong, at all. If anything, it felt really, really right. She blushed a little at how he was looking at her, but Hayley lifted her head to meet his kiss, sliding one hand to cradle his jaw.

"Let's get you in the water..." She didn't like him being on his feet after everything.

Derek enjoyed the little flush of color as he leaned to kiss her, his eyes drifting closed briefly as he did. Now it felt a bit better.

"Okay." He nodded, stepping back just a bit. Once he was naked, showing more scrapes and bruises, he waited for the tub to be filled before he stepped in and sat down. A shower probably would have been better but he wasn't sure he could have stood for long yet.

She winced at yet more proof of his injuries, but didn't say anything. After he was settled, she stripped out of her clothes, then moved to perch on the side of the tub first, to see where she'd best fit without hurting him.

"Come here." He reached out, snaking an arm around her waist to pull her down to settle on top of him though he left it up to her which way she wanted to face.

Hayley smiled and slipped into the tub, careful of the wounds on his chest, shifting enough to lean against the other side with her back to his chest. The strength of his heartbeat was relieving and she sighed as she let the water wash up over them.

"This okay?" Not hurting him more, she meant.

"It's more than okay." He reassured her, turning his head to nuzzle softly against the spot behind her ear after brushing her hair aside, drawing in her scent as he did. It was strange how comforting that scent had become in just a short amount of time but it was true.

Drawn in a little more, he slid his hand over her belly.

The soft nuzzling and the feel of his hands sliding over her had her starting to relax, finally. She closed her eyes and sighed, slipping her hand down to cover his. The gesture was familiar to her now, but she was more grateful and pleased by it than she'd been before--double the gratitude, she supposed.

"Good. Because I'm not sure I'm going to be inclined to move any time soon..."

"Neither am I." He reassured her, his lips still teasing along her jawline now as he kept his voice soft. Brushing his thumb just above her belly button, he wondered briefly about the life resting inside of her but then he let it go as he pressed a kiss to the side of her neck.

The baby was on her mind a little bit, mainly because she still couldn't believe he was okay with it. Part of her would probably be tense about it for a while, especially when she started to show, when she did more than hear it, but could feel it, too.

But that was for another day. Today, she tilted her head a bit more for his lips, reaching up with her hand to lightly thread fingers through his hair.

"If you want the jets on, just let me know..." She didn't want to aggravate the wounds, but they were heaven for sore muscles which she was sure he had.

Maybe right now it was easier to deal with because she wasn't showing, so it was a sort of 'out of sight, out of mind' sort of thing. Hopefully by the time she was showing, he would have it completely settled in his head but that was for later.

"Is there a weak setting?" He asked, pressing another kiss to the side of her neck.

"Mmm...I think so, yeah..." She was reluctant to move away from him, but she leaned forward to fiddle with the knob, turning the jets on to a gentle sort of pulse before leaning back into him again. "That good?"

The question came with a little wriggle which layered the question with a few things, as did the smirk over her shoulder.

She was okay with him not dwelling on the baby. What would be would be. She'd hope that he'd accept it if they got that far, but...she'd never gotten that far, so she wasn't counting on it.

He was reluctant to let her go as well and it was evident in the way his hands lingered on her hips, his thumbs brushing over the small of her back till she moved back against him again. Then the little wriggle was interesting because it had an effect on him despite him being hurt and healing.

"Very good." He gave her a knowing look, smirking.
